‘KYK Invitational 2024’ held from June 7th to 9th
‘Volleyball Empress’ Kim Yeon-kyung (36) will compete in an event commemorating her retirement from the national team.
Kim Yeon-kyung's agency Ryan At announced, "We will be holding the 'KYK Invitational 2024' with Kim Yeon-kyung invited at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium on June 8 and 9."
On June 7th, Media Day and the eve ceremony will be held, and on the 8th, the 'National Team Event Match' and 'National Team Retirement Ceremony' hosted by the Korea Volleyball Association will be held. On the 9th, the ‘World Women’s Volleyball All-Star Game’ hosted by Ryan @ will be held.
This game will be Kim Yeon-kyung's last game wearing the Taegeuk symbol.
She introduced Ryan Att, saying, “Domestic players who led the golden age of the Korean women’s national volleyball team will be together, and former and current world-class women’s volleyball players will also visit Korea in response to Kim Yeon-kyung’s invitation.”
Except for Kim Yeon-kyung, the names of the players who will play have not been revealed.
Kim Yeon-kyung announced her retirement from representing her country after she competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021. She has not played in international competitions since and she only played in the professional volleyball V-League for Heungkuk Life Insurance. There is still a question mark as to whether we will be able to see ‘active player’ Kim Yeon-kyung in her next season. Kim Yeon-kyung, who had been contemplating retirement as a player, signed a one-year contract with Heungkuk Life Insurance for a total of 775 million won after completing the 2022-2023 season. She showed off her unchanged skills in the 2023-2023 season, but Kim Yeon-kyung is reticent to say anything about her future.
