Iga Swiatek (Poland), ranked No. 1 in the women's professional tennis (WTA) tour singles, missed her ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics final.
Zheng Qinyuan, first Chinese athlete to reach Olympic singles final
Swiatek lost 0-2 (2-6 5-7) to Zheng Qinyuan of China in the women's singles semifinals held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France on the 1st (Korean time).
Swiatek is the strongest player in women's tennis.
At the French Open, which was held in the same venue as the Olympics, she showed a stronger side on clay courts, winning three consecutive titles. She was also considered a strong candidate for the gold medal at this tournament.
However, her challenge for the Olympic title was blocked by Zheng Qinyuan, ranked 7th in the world, whom she met in the semifinals.
