Philip Kim celebrates with his Olympic breaking gold medal in hand.

When I was young, I watched a street performance and became a 'B-boy', so I studied and trained on my own while watching the Internet without a coach.

Korean-Canadian second-generation 'Phil Wizard' Philip Kim (27) has become the first B-boy to win an Olympic gold medal in breaking. On the 11th, Philip Kim won the gold medal by defeating 'Danny Dan' Danis Civil (26, France) 3-0 in the breaking B-boy final at the Paris Olympics.

Breaking is a sport where two athletes compete one-on-one in a dance competition, and the judges decide the winner based on creativity, originality, technique, variety, execution, and musicality. This is the first time breaking has been adopted as an official Olympic sport. Philip Kim said, "It's historic. I never thought I would be here," and "I was caught up in a whirlwind of emotions throughout the competition, but now I'm happy. I'm really happy."

Philip Kim became obsessed with dancing after seeing a street performance of Breaking Street in downtown Vancouver when he was in elementary school. He would say, "I'm going to the bathroom," and go out during class to practice dancing and come back. Even in middle and high school, he would often stay up all night practicing dancing on the street. His parents eventually decided to believe in their son's passion.

Philip Kim said, "Not long after I entered college, I told my parents, 'I want to quit school and focus only on dancing.' My parents agreed, saying, 'I'll give you time to prove yourself.' I'm glad that my parents have realized that my son is a really good dancer."

Philip Kim usually trains without a coach. The Internet is his teacher. Thanks to this, he has gained strengths such as unique techniques and musical expression. He also cited 'improvisation' as the secret to his gold medal. The

only Korean athlete to participate in the breaking event of this competition, both men's and women's, was eliminated in the group stage
